About Nadi

Fiji's islands are famous for providing an equally pleasing mix of exciting adventures and soothing calm. One minute, you're on a rare and spectacular journey to an underwater world where you are joined by majestic yet gentle manta rays along the edge of the breathtaking Astrolabe coral reef, then another minute, you're taking in the magnificent sunset while receiving a truly pleasurable massage on a powder-fine sandy beach.

The third-largest town in all of the Fiji islands, Nadi is situated on the western part of Fiji's main island of Viti Levu. Nadi's multiracial community of more than 20,000 is largely Fijian, with a large number of Indian nationals and tourists at any given time of year. Tourism is the island's primary source of income, along with sugar cane production. With 18 hotels in the area, Nadi has a higher concentration of hotels and motels than any other part of Fiji, and restaurants, nightlife, duty free shopping, sightseeing tours and inter-island cruises abound in Fiji

Because of its location (nine kilometers away from the main international airport of Fiji), Nadi is the primary entry point of entry into Fiji for air travelers, despite its being opposite the island's largest city and capital, Suva, which is located on Viti Levu, separate from Nadi.

UTILITIES

• Internet Services.Internet cafes and most resorts and hotels provide their customers and guests Internet access. Broadband is gaining in popularity, although the dial-up connection is still the primary Net-connection access method of choice. The Nadi International Airport has several Internet kiosks sponsored by I-Surf Prepaid Internet, whose prepaid cards may be purchased from outlets throughout the airport complex.
• Public Telephones. Telecards, Fiji's national phone-loading service, may be purchased from over 2,000 vendors distributed evenly across Nadi and the rest of Fiji. These cards may be used on any landline phone to make person-to-person calls using public phone booths. Denominations are available in $50, $20, $10, $5 and $3.
• Mobile Phone Services. Vodafone provides quality coverage for most areas of Fiji, including Nadi, although roaming with your country's service provider must be enabled for you to have access to the Vodafone network. Local numbers may be dialed directly from within Fiji; international calls must include 00, country code, and area code before the actual telephone number.
• Electricity. Fiji's electrical current runs 240 volts/AC 50 Hz. The majority of hotels in Fiji and resorts in Fiji use three-pin power outlets (similar to those in Australia and New Zealand, although many offer universal outlets for 240V or 110V to accommodate travelers' electric items, like electric razors and hair dryers.
• Postal Services. Fiji's official postal service provider is Post Fiji Limited, an entity fully owned by the Fijian national government. It provides citizens and transient visitors postal service using an extensive network of post offices and agencies comprising more than 300 outlets. Post Fiji delivers parcels and letters to international and local markets, servicing more than 60,000 delivery points throughout Fiji and processing over 45 million letters and parcels. Their post offices and agencies also provide assistance with money orders, faxing, and locks.
