Faiths

Nadi's most popular religion is Hinduism and Islam, thanks to the largely Indo-Fijian population of the island. The impressive Sri Siva Subramaniya temple on the east side of Nadi is reportedly the largest Hindi temple in the southern hemisphere, and is a popular destination site for Hindu pilgrims. Muslims, meanwhile, are free to worship at the Nadi and Ahmadiya Mosques. At any of these places, visitors are welcome but requested to take off their shoes before entering and refrain from taking photographs.

Currency

In Fiji, the Fijian dollar reigns supreme as the islands' basic unit of currency. The Fijian dollar is available in paper denominations of $2, $5, $10, $20, $50 and coin denominations of 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c and $1. While the Fijian government has set no limit to the amount of money visitors can bring into Fiji, they are allowed to take out only as much currency as the amount they brought in.

Foreign Exchange

Foreign exchange rates are published daily in all Fijian newspapers, and the published rates govern to a great extent the rates set by all banks and most most hotels in exchanging tourists' foreign notes and travellers cheques.

Banks

Nadi has three major banks: ANZ, Westpac, and Colonial National Bank.

• ANZ. One of the top 50 banks in the world, ANZ is a major international banking and financial services group located in Melbourne, where it first opened an office as the Bank of Australasia in the 1830s.
• Westpac. An Australian bank with branches in Fiji and New Zealand, Westpac was recognized as the Best of the Best for Service Excellence at the Customer Service Institute of Australia National Service Excellence Awards 2006.
• Colonial National Bank. Colonial National offers its clients the most widespread network of banking services through the ATM and post office branches of its subsidiaries, EFTPOS and Colonial EasyBank.

Credit Cards

Most of Fiji's hotels and restaurants accept major credit cards, including American Express, Diners Club, Visa, JCB International and Mastercard. Shops, cruise lines, rental car agencies, travel agents also accept credit cards, although most of these are based in Suva, not Nadi. Fiji's American Express and VISA representatives can replace lost credit cards and travellers cheques.
